Ear Wax Removal in Preston
& Lancashire
In clinic or your home

Safe, gentle ear wax removal by experienced audiologists at our Winckley Square clinic, or at your home across Lancashire

A build-up of ear wax is one of the most common and most overlooked causes of muffled hearing, ear discomfort, or a blocked feeling. It's often mistaken for hearing loss, when in reality the fix can take minutes.

We only use microsuction which is the safest and most comfortable method of ear wax removal, using gentle suction under close visual guidance rather than old-fashioned syringing. No water, no mess, and no unnecessary discomfort.

Why choose us for ear wax removal?

What is Ear wax, and why does it build up?

Ear wax (cerumen) is produced naturally by glands in your ear canal. In small amounts, it's actually protective, it traps dust and debris and helps keep the canal from drying out. Most of the time, it works its way out on its own but sometimes it can cause a blockage and impact your hearing.

Why it matters: a build-up of impacted wax can muffle your hearing, cause a blocked or full feeling, lead to earache, tinnitus, dizziness, or even trigger a mild infection if left untreated. It's also one of the most common reasons people believe they have hearing loss when the cause is actually far simpler to fix.

Why Microsuction?

Microsuction uses gentle suction under magnified, direct vision of the ear canal, no water, no mess, and none of the risks associated with old-fashioned syringing. It is seen as the gold standard of ear wax removal and widely used by ENT professionals and Audiologists.

We highly advise using only an olive oil spray for 3-5 days morning and night before your appointment as this can help soften wax and make removal quicker and more comfortable.

Preparing for your appointment

Getting the most out of your appointment starts a few days before you walk through the door.

✓   Use olive oil drops morning and night for 2–3 days beforehand — softens wax and makes removal quicker

✓   Fill in consent form sent to you — tell us your medical history and anything we should know.

What not to do with your ears?

  • Don't use cotton buds - they push wax deeper against the eardrum

  • Don't try ear candling - no reliable evidence it works, real risk of burns

  • Don't use home ear-vacuum or syringe kits without professional guidance

  • Don't insert any object into the canal, ever

  • Don't ignore pain, bleeding, sudden hearing loss, or discharge - get checked

Aftercare

Most people feel the benefit immediately, but a few simple steps help your ears settle well afterwards.

✓   Mild tenderness for the rest of the day is normal and usually settles by the next day

✓  Avoid inserting anything into the canal afterward, even to "check" it

✓   Contact us if pain, bleeding, dizziness or discharge follows - very rare
